![[HERO] Still Tired in Perimenopause? Why "Doing Everything Right" Isn't Working [HERO] Still Tired in Perimenopause? Why "Doing Everything Right" Isn't Working](https://cdn.marblism.com/9pNRBzvXcpx.webp)
You’re used to being the one who holds everything together.
In the boardroom, the classroom, or the clinic, you are the person people rely on. You’re intelligent, capable, and historically, you’ve been in total control of your life and your body.
But lately, something has shifted.
You’re waking up at 3am with your mind racing, even though you were exhausted when your head hit the pillow.
You’re hitting a wall at 3pm that no amount of caffeine can punch through.
Your brain feels slower than it used to, and you’re finding yourself reaching for words that used to come easily.
The most frustrating part? You’re doing "everything right."
You’re eating the salads. You’re pushing through the gym sessions. You’re taking the supplements you saw on Instagram.
And yet, your body isn't responding anymore.
If you’ve said the words, "I’m doing everything right, but I’m still so tired," I want you to take a deep breath.
You aren’t imagining this. You aren’t failing. And you certainly haven't lost your edge.
Your body is simply responding to a new set of hormonal rules.
One of the most common things I hear from women seeking private menopause support in the UK is the "Normal Test Result" story.
It goes like this: You feel like a shell of your former self. You’re exhausted, your clothes suddenly aren't fitting the same, and you feel "off."
You go to the GP, explain your fatigue, and have your bloods taken.
A week later, the text comes back: "Your results are normal."
While it’s a relief to know nothing is "wrong" in a clinical sense, it’s also incredibly isolating. You’re left standing there with your fatigue, wondering why "normal" feels so much like "terrible."
Here is the truth: Standard blood tests are designed to find disease, not to measure the subtle, chaotic fluctuations of perimenopause.
Your iron might be "in range," but is it optimal for a woman losing more blood each month? Your thyroid might be "fine," but is it being suppressed by high cortisol?
In my work as a menopause coach in London and online, I look past the "normal" to find the "why."
Because if you feel this tired, something is happening.

When we feel tired, our instinct is to work harder.
We try to "fix" the fatigue with more coffee, more intense exercise to "boost energy," or stricter diets to shift the perimenopause weight.
But in perimenopause, the old rules don't just stop working: they often backfire.
You know that wired-but-exhausted feeling at night? That’s often a sign that your cortisol rhythm is out of sync.
As progesterone drops, your body loses its natural "anti-anxiety" hormone. Your nervous system becomes more sensitive. Suddenly, your body treats a stressful work email like a physical threat, spiking cortisol at 3am and keeping you wide awake when you should be in deep repair sleep.
Inside your cells, you have tiny power plants called mitochondria. They produce ATP: the fuel your body runs on.
Oestrogen is a key player in keeping those power plants running. As oestrogen fluctuates and declines, your cells literally struggle to produce energy.
This isn't a willpower problem. This is a cellular fuel problem. No amount of "pushing through" can fix a cell that doesn't have the tools to create energy.
Even if you’re eating "healthy," your body’s relationship with insulin changes during perimenopause. You might find you're bloated by the end of the day or experiencing a massive mid-afternoon crash.
This instability drives fatigue and brain fog, making your brain feel "foggy" and your body feel heavy.
I need you to hear this: Your body is not failing you. It is responding to a massive internal recalibration.
When your nervous system is stuck in overdrive, your body prioritizes survival over energy. It holds onto weight because it feels "under threat." It disrupts sleep because it’s scanning for danger.
If you are a high-achiever: a woman in healthcare, education, or corporate leadership: your nervous system has likely been "on" for decades. Perimenopause is often the point where the body says, "I can't carry this load the old way anymore."

So, what do we do when "doing everything right" fails?
We stop trying to force the body into submission and start listening to the biology.
In my practice, I use the Hormone REFRESH Method™. It’s a root-cause approach that focuses on the nervous system and cortisol first, before we even talk about traditional "health" metrics.
We don't lead with restriction. We lead with regulation.
We have to tell your body it is safe. This means looking at how you start your day, how you transition from work to home, and how you manage that "constantly switched on" feeling.
Instead of "eating less," we look at personalised nutrition that stabilizes blood sugar and supports mitochondrial health. We want steady energy through the day, not a cycle of spikes and crashes.
We work to reset that 3am cortisol spike. Imagine sleeping through to 6am and waking up feeling actually refreshed, rather than needing coffee just to function.
I want you to imagine a Tuesday three months from now.
You wake up at 6:30am, having slept through the night.
You head into work with a clear head. You aren't searching for words in meetings. You have the "brain power" to handle the complex tasks that usually drain you.
3:00pm comes and goes. There’s no crash. You don't feel the need to raid the snack drawer or find a hidden corner for a nap.
When you get home, you actually have energy left for your family: or better yet, for yourself.
This isn't a pipe dream. This is what happens when we stop fighting our hormones and start working with them.
You’ve spent your life being the capable one. The one with all the answers.
But you don’t have to be an expert in endocrinology just to feel human again.
If you’re looking for perimenopause help for professionals and you’re ready to move past the "normal" blood tests and the exhaustion, I’m here to help.
Whether you need a menopause coach in the UK online or a more tailored, private approach, we can find the root cause of your fatigue together.
Your body isn't broken. It’s just changing.
And with the right support, you can feel like yourself again: only perhaps a version of yourself that finally knows how to rest.
Let's talk about what's actually happening in your body.
